Watsonville, CA – “What a great Fair!”  And it wasn’t just the hundreds of volunteers who made the 2013 Santa Cruz County Fair possible who were saying it.  Facebook posts, tweets, email messages, comments to the Fair’s survey team, even bits of conversation caught out on the grounds all could be distilled into one visitor’s comment “What a great Fair, the best one ever!”

The numbers confirm that it was also one of the most popular Fairs ever.  “We don’t have attendance figures quite yet, still counting” said Fair manager Dave Kegebein who added, “But we do know that revenue was up over 11 percent and our group of vendors did even better than that showing more than a 20 percent increase over last year.”

One anecdotal example of what a successful Fair means to a vendor came from a new addition out near Livestock.  Camel Rides offered a couple of laps around a track aboard one of two camels and they had never given 700 rides in one day until last Friday at the Fair.  “We’re bringing four camels next year” said an excited Kyle McGranahan.

The 2014 Santa Cruz County Fair will run September 9-14, at the Fairgrounds located on Highway 152 just east of Watsonville.  Information on the Fair, and the Fairgrounds - a year round entertainment and event venue, can be found at www.santacruzcountyfair.com
