Innovation at the Santa Cruz County Fair

Watsonville, CA – Santa Cruz County lies just beyond the Silicon Valley, so it should be of no surprise the Fair is bursting with innovation!

This year, the Innovation Department has received several unique entries… all things invented and built by local people, adults and teens alike.

Samuel Holbrook created the "Super Sucker Separator 3000.” It’s a bucket system attachment for a shop vac.

14-year-old Alexander Jaeger entered two inventions. One, a solar-powered energy generation system for space travel. Jaeger says it’s lightweight and cheap. Two, an Interplanetary Robot. It shoots fire (blocks) at objects sent to destroy earth.

Wayne Overbeck created a 3-D printed merry-go-round to show his grandkids how the gears work.

And, Alex Biondi entered “High-Voltage Insulators from around the World.” He built his project with items he recycled from his yard.

The Innovation Department is a very special part of the Fair. It gives local makers and inventors a great place to show off their skills… with a little friendly competition on the side.

Russell Sanderson, co-chair of the department, is available this weekend for interviews and tours of the department. Please call him to schedule:  831-682-1301.
