One Less Day, a Lot More Fair

Watsonville, CA – The Santa Cruz County Fair Board of Directors has voted to shave one day off the annual Fair and use the savings to fill the now five day Fair with more and bigger entertainment and attractions. “It’s hard for folks to get to the Fairgrounds during the week and that’s been reflected in the attendance on Tuesday especially” explained Dave Kegebein, Fair Manager.

The Santa Cruz County Far has been enjoying a renaissance the past few years and part of the increasing success is Kegebein’s philosophy of remaking the Fair in part each year. In keeping with that goal Kegebein proposed, and the board agreed, it is better to have five very full attraction rich Fair days.

Watsonville, CA - “We’re looking for a few good ideas from which to choose the theme for the 2015 Fair” explained fair manager Dave Kegebein.  “We will take theme suggestions through Friday, January 9, 2015 and then select a winner” added Kegebein.

The theme is the seed around which the management team and hundreds of volunteers will build a Fair.  Past themes have focused on youth, agriculture, having fun, meeting friends, and the area’s rich history.  The theme chosen will earn its author free passes to the 2015 fair.  Themes may be dropped off or mailed to the Fair office at 2601 East Lake Avenue, Watsonville, CA  95076, emailed to , or submitted on line at www.santacruzcountyfair.com

Watsonville, CA – “It was a very good Fair” that comment from Santa Cruz County Fair manager Dave Kegebein summed up the 2014 edition of the county’s largest event. “Attendance was up nine percent and that’s on top of the eleven percent increase in 2013” he explained. Even more importantly, revenues outpaced attendance increases by a nice margin.

The healthy attendance numbers are also a nice reward for the volunteers who collectively spend thousands of hours making the Fair possible.  Kegebein was quick to give praise “Each year I am awed by the effort and dedication the volunteers give to their Fair.  It is very humbling to see how hard they work.”
